DAY 3
Some climbers suffer from breathlessness, irritability and
headaches, so its-essential to spend a day being properly
acclimatized. Ascend high up into the saddle on 2 to 3 hours
trek then relax for lunch. As you descend again to spend a
second night in Horombo Hut, you will appreciate and discover
the secret of successful acclimatization.
DAY 4
Trek for about 6 hours through rocky and rugged terrain, past
the last water point to overnight at Kibo Hut (4700m), the
last hut before the summit.
DAY 5
Depart shortly after midnight, when the loose stone is frozen
making it easier to climb on 10 to 12 hr trek. Travel across
an uneven trail that leads to Hans Meyer cave, a good resting
place. Then though regular switchbacks most of the way to
the top, with a last minute scramble over rocks to the rim
of the crater at 5685m, past Stella point, to conquer Uhuru
peak, the highest point in Africa and enjoy stunning views
of the ice walls offset by rugged rocks. After a fast descent
to Kibo Hut for tea and rest, continue to Horombo Hut, to
overnight.
